There is a real diversity of things to do within a short drive of Cortijo Contrares. Locally there is fantastic walking with local birdlife being outstanding. Hoopoe, bee-eaters and little owls are frequently seen in our garden and the resident pair of Bonelli’s eagles often overhead. Half an hour north is the El Chorro gorge and the beautiful lakes that always remain cool to swim in even in the heat of the summer. The El Camino del Rey that has only opened in 2015 is a spectacular 4km walk way along the gorge with spectacular views and drops. Alhaurin golf is only 30 minutes away and more than 30 courses within an hours drive. Malaga is accessible by train from Pizarra and Alora and takes just 20 minutes to get into the centre of town.

Lobo Park - a wolf sanctuary just to the north towards Antequera

Salvo - cable car to the mountain with falconry, Andalucian horse display & Oceanarium

There are two English run stables for horse riding nearby - Live and Breathe Horses & Summer Breeze Stables
